Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter Goes Green
with ReVision Energy

 NSKS and ReVision Energy

As a non-profit, Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter focuses on helping those in need in our community. Being able to source our electricity directly from the sun means being able to help more people so, since February 2017, we have stepped up our sustainable practices and our savings by offsetting a portion of our electrical usage with solar panels. We worked with Brentwood, NH-based ReVision Energy [Link:] to install a 39.95 kilowatt grid-tied solar electric system.

When the sun is shining, the 131 solar panels on the roof of our building produce electricity that is either used in real-time by our pantry, kitchen, and administrative offices, or fed back to the grid where it benefits our community and earns us a credit. Each year, the system will generate roughly 44,054 kilowatt-hours (kWhs) of electricity, offsetting the equivalent of driving over 80,350 miles in a gas-powered car.

The project was financed through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), which means that NSKS paid minimal upfront fees to install the solar panels. Instead, investors paid the upfront costs through a fund managed by ReVision while NSKS pays for the power generated from the solar panels each month instead of paying for power from the grid. After a period of time, NSKS can opt to buy the system from the investors at a significantly reduced price and own all the solar power generated outright!
